Well let me clarify now.
If making a parody is being called copycat, that I am a copycat.
All materials in Retrojak contain element of homage & tribute to many references in pop culture.
I am a HUGE fan of Ring merchandise. As well as Gaban and other various sentai & tokusatsu there is. Making a spoof here and there is obviously harmless. I would like to extend my most sincere apology if my simple gesture of fandom in storytelling gave anybody the wrong idea.
But get used to it. There will be more and these things are nothing new. The whole idea of Retrojak is everything mashed into one package. Don't take it seriously.
Please, just enjoy it.

My bookmaking (elective) class requires, as the class name is, making a book.
Since the content is free I decided to make a basic guide in creating a simple comic. And the characters I'm using are from my very own current title, Retrojak.
Progress preview is on next week~
I made an illustration for I don't know maybe the back cover of the book, since the cover will be something else I think.
I leave the empty space for text/summary/etc.
Not sure if I should slap in the Retrojak title for the back cover. It can be confusing!

Wow, whoever sent that Email to you about 'The Ring' parody, probably hasn't even heard of the concept of a parody.

I really like your use of the foreshortening effect in the pic. Also, yeah, putting the 'Retrojak' title on the back cover would confuse some people...

I have already consulted from somebody who is alot older than me.
You copy DIRECTLY the scenes from the movie, putting it under your NAME.
IF you wanted to say its a fandom, you could always include that its from 'The Ring'in the COMIC. Alot of artists put something like that so they don't get into trouble.
Unless the story ends as a joke, you won't get sued even if you didn't include the above.
Man, you need to check the details of copyrights!

That's true with one exception: when the source is so obvious there's no need to mention it.
Plus, resources/references only applies to academic works. Stories don't apply.

Anonymous flamer, saya faham awak marah perbuatan copycat yang melanda komik tempatan baru2 ini. Tetapi seperti yang dikatakan oleh poster2 lain, kenapa anda hanya marah Zid 'meniru' the Ring sedangkan watak2 Gaban dsb-nya tidak pula anda memberi penekanan. Ini seolah2 mencadangkan anda seorang fanatic cerita seram itu, dan ini dapat membuatkan pandangan anda diambil remeh oleh pihak lain.
Anda kata Zid meniru dari filem tersebut, tetapi itu tidak logik, krn ianya dalam media berbeza. Lainlah kalau anda katakan dia menjiplak manga Ringu, maka bolehlah dia boleh di-scrutinise. Akan tetapi, adakah anda lihat panel2 tersebut betul? Terdapat belon2 bualan yang isi kandungannya langsung tak sama dgn karya asal. Maka ini boleh tergolong dalam kategori parody, ataupun boleh juga masuk sebagai adaptation kerana bahasa, situasi dan lokasinya berbeza. Mengikut Copyright Law, kedua2 ini tidak menjadi violation kerana ada noticible/discernible effort yang membezakannya dari karya yang asal dari pihak penulis.
Pendek kata, anda baca komik tu, anda tahu kan ianya bukan cerita the Ring? Kalau anda jawab ya, maka ianya bukan Copyright Violation.

Oh and to anonymous, thanks for spoiling my first visit to this page. What you said as true as it may be, it's not as if Zid is saying that The Ring is made by him or anything of the sort. Just because he paid homage to one of the things he looks up to does not make him guilty of plagiarising. Moreover, people who can't actually tell the difference when Zid's paying homage to a pre-existing thing (The Ring etc) or not should try to brush up on their worldly knowledge in the first place.
Salamz Zid, at last terjumpa gak blog ni. Itu pun Gornex mention kat pergh dot com. Tahniah di atas usaha and dalam menghasilkan Retrojak. No heart feeling, sentuh pasal screentone dalam penghasilan cover Jom #9. Sesaja untuk dapat feedback pasal pengfhasilan cover menggunakan teknik tersebut.
